The decision
Editors decide on the evidence of the reports, and the authors receive every one of them in full when they do.
What we ask you to assess
A Pensul report has four scored dimensions, a summary written for the editor, and comments written for the authors. The scores orient the editor quickly; the comments are what actually improve the paper.

What we ask of you
- Answer invitations either way. A fast no is far better than silence.
- Keep to the deadline you accept, or tell us early so we can reassign.
- Number your comments so the authors can respond to each in turn.
- Declare competing interests, including the ones you think are obvious.
- Treat the manuscript as confidential until it is published.
Before you join
- How many invitations will I get?
- Only for manuscripts matching the subject areas you declare. You can pause invitations entirely from your dashboard whenever you need to.
- Will my name be published?
- Only if you choose to sign your report. Anonymity is the default and carries no disadvantage.
- What if I have a competing interest?
- Decline, and tell us why if you can. Suggesting an alternative reviewer is the single most useful thing you can do at that moment.
- What if I need more time?
- Tell us early and we will either extend or reassign. A late report that arrives is better than a silent one, but an early warning is better than both.
- Do I have to be a Pensul author?
- No. Many of our reviewers publish elsewhere entirely.
- What makes a good report here?
- Specific, actionable, numbered comments the authors can respond to point by point. Editors rate reports, and consistently strong reviewers are invited more often.
