Pensul publishes peer-reviewed research across the sciences. We read everything that comes in, we manage review actively rather than hopefully, and we would rather publish fewer papers well than more papers quickly.
Peer review, managed properly
An editor reads every submission and decides within about five working days whether it belongs in peer review. Work that proceeds goes to five to ten specialists whose declared expertise matches its subject areas, each with a firm deadline that we enforce. Authors receive every report in full at the moment a decision is recorded.
Accepted work is issued an ISBN, published, and archived in perpetuity. The identifier is permanent and never reused, so a citation made in 2026 still resolves in 2046, whatever happens to any particular URL.
We charge authors nothing to submit or to publish. Our revenue comes from readers, which means our incentive is to publish work worth reading. The commercial arrangements with authors and reviewers are set out in the FAQ and the terms of service.
Publication ethics
Editors, not reviewers, make decisions, and they make them on the evidence of the reports. Reviewers with a competing interest are expected to decline, and authors may exclude specific reviewers without giving a reason.
Every published article receives an ISBN and is archived in perpetuity. Retracted work stays online with a retraction notice attached, because removing it would damage the record we exist to maintain. We investigate credible allegations of misconduct and publish corrections openly.
